Create a Word document online

Start with a blank A4 page, write and format your document, add pictures and links, then download it as a real Word (.docx) file you can keep editing in Word. Free, no account, and nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. Open the page and start typing: there is nothing to upload and no account to make.
  2. Use the toolbar to format text, add headings and lists, insert pictures, add your signature and links, set spacing and margins, and start new pages.
  3. Your draft is saved in this browser as you type. Choose Download Word (.docx) when you are done.

What it is good for

Letters, notes, CVs, simple reports and any document you want to start from scratch and finish in Word.

Supported files and limits

Files: Pictures: PNG, JPEG, WebP and GIF (WebP and GIF are converted to PNG so Word can keep them). Download: Word (.docx).

  • Drafts are kept in this browser on this device only. They are not saved to an account and do not sync, so download the .docx to keep or share a copy.
  • Word and your browser lay out pages with different engines, so line and page breaks can move slightly in Word. Text, formatting, pictures and links are kept.
  • Pictures can be up to 10 MB each. Tables, headers, footers and page numbers are not available yet.

Your files and privacy

Your file is processed in your browser, on your own device. It is not uploaded to FreePDFScanner's servers. FreePDFScanner counts basic usage, such as which tool was opened, but never sees what is inside your document.

Questions and answers

Do I need an account?
No. Open the page and start writing. Drafts are saved in your own browser.
Will my work be lost if I refresh the page?
No. It is saved in your browser as you type and restored when you come back. Clearing the site's data in your browser removes saved drafts, so download the .docx for anything important.
Can I edit the downloaded file in Microsoft Word?
Yes. It is a real .docx file with real headings, lists, links and pictures, so it opens and edits in Word and other office apps.
