How it works

  1. Choose or drop a picture.
  2. Crop, rotate, flip, resize or adjust it. You can undo any step, and the preview is only a smaller copy.
  3. Pick JPEG, PNG or WebP, then choose Download image. The file is made from your original pixels in one pass.

What it is good for

Cropping a photo to a set shape, straightening a sideways picture, making a logo or signature smaller, or preparing a picture for a form or a website.

Supported files and limits

Files: Opens JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF files up to 100 MB and 64 megapixels. Downloads as JPEG, PNG or WebP.

  • JPEG cannot keep transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a colour you choose (white by default).
  • JPEG and lossy WebP discard a little detail when saved. PNG is lossless.
  • Making a picture larger cannot add detail that was never there.
  • Details such as location and camera in a photo are not copied into the edited file.
  • An animated GIF is edited as its first frame.

Your files and privacy

Your file is processed in your browser, on your own device. It is not uploaded to FreePDFScanner's servers. FreePDFScanner counts basic usage, such as which tool was opened, but never sees what is inside your document.

Questions and answers

Will my picture lose quality when I edit it?
Your original is never changed. Each edit is a note about what to do, and the download is drawn from the original pixels once, so repeated edits do not stack up loss. Saving as JPEG or lossy WebP still discards a little detail; PNG does not.
Does it make a PDF?
No. This tool downloads a picture file. To put pictures in a PDF, use the image to PDF converter.
What size will the download be?
The same size as your picture, unless you crop or resize it. A 4000 by 3000 photo downloads at 4000 by 3000.
