How it works
- Upload your PDF, Word or Excel file, or a photo of the document, and open the page that needs the picture.
- Choose Add image, then choose the picture from your device.
- Rotate or crop it if needed. For a photo with a set size, pick the size and drag the box over the face.
- Place it, drag it into position and resize it, then create and download the PDF.
What it is good for
CVs and job applications, school and visa forms, ID and membership forms, letterheads with a logo, and any form that needs a photo stuck on it.
Supported files and limits
Files: JPG, PNG and WebP pictures up to 20 MB each. The document can be a PDF, a Word (.docx) or Excel (.xlsx) file, a CSV or an image.
- Pictures are placed on top of the page. Existing text in the document is not rewritten.
- The result is a PDF. A Word or Excel file is converted to PDF first, so the picture is added to that PDF and your original .docx or .xlsx is not changed.
- The saved PDF is created from page images, so its text is not selectable.
- Passport and ID photo sizes are different for every country and application. Check the size you need; the sizes offered are exact in the downloaded PDF printed at Actual size (100%) with Fit to page off. The Print button fits the page to the paper, so a photo comes out slightly smaller.
- HEIC, GIF, SVG and BMP pictures are not supported. Save them as JPG or PNG first.
Your files and privacy
Your file is processed in your browser, on your own device. It is not uploaded to FreePDFScanner's servers. FreePDFScanner counts basic usage, such as which tool was opened, but never sees what is inside your document.

Questions and answers
- How do I insert my passport photograph into a PDF?
- Upload the form, open the page, choose Add image, pick your photograph, choose the photo size your application asks for, then place it and drag it into position.
- Can I add more than one picture?
- Yes. Choose Add image again for each one. Each picture can be moved, resized, replaced or removed on its own.
- Can I put a picture in a Word document and keep it as a Word file?
- Not here. A Word document is turned into a PDF first, and the picture is added to that PDF. The finished file is a PDF.
- Is my picture uploaded?
- No. The picture is read and placed in your browser and is never sent to FreePDFScanner's servers.
