How it works

  1. Choose a Word document (.docx, up to 100 MB).
  2. Pick a level with the slider and check the estimated size.
  3. Choose Compress Word and download the smaller .docx.

What it is good for

Reports and documents with photos or screenshots that are too big to email.

Supported files and limits

Files: .docx files up to 100 MB. The older .doc format is not supported.

  • Only the pictures are compressed. A document with few pictures will barely change.
  • Turning the document into a PDF is a separate step: use Word to PDF.

Your files and privacy

Your file is processed in your browser, on your own device. It is not uploaded to PDFScanner's servers. PDFScanner counts basic usage, such as which tool was opened, but never sees what is inside your document.

Questions and answers

Will my formatting change?
No. Only the pictures inside the file are recompressed. Text, tables, fonts and layout are left alone.
Can I compress an older .doc file?
Not directly. Open it in Word, save it as .docx, then compress it here.
